You Are Not Alone

Dear Baykids friends,

These are really rough times. We are all trying to navigate through uncharted territory while the concept of isolation has been a challenge for so many of the patients that we have worked with. I keep reminding myself how strong these kids are and want to believe that I can succeed, too.

As a parent of a senior in high school, I know how many milestones will be missed for him and his friends, but I also know that they will manage somehow and I hope we all will eventually.

Despite the sudden onsets of panic and loneliness, I know we as a community have to do everything, together, to maintain reliable health care, to slow down this virus and protect everyone.

Our team is currently not working with patients and quite frankly we don’t know when we will again. We are exploring some remote options for patients to tell their stories.

We are also using this time to upgrade some of our existing platforms and organize our communications with you, our favorite audience for our stories.

Please stay safe and know that you are not alone.

PS: Maybe this poem brings you some joy.

“And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently.

“And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.

“And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed.”
